ANEM: PROTEST AGAINST HACKING ATTACKS ON RADIO CITY NIS WEB SITE

Belgrade, July 28, 2011 - The Association of Independent Electronic Media strongly protests against hacking attacks on Radio City Nis web site by Albanian hackers.

The Radio City statement says that on  July 27, 2011, Albanian hackers known under the name of UAH CREW hacked the Radio City web site and left the message KOSOVO IS SHQIPERI (Kosovo is Albanian). The statement also says that the reason for the attack probably lies in the fact that this radio station broadcasts joint programs of network of local radio stations from Kosovo and central Serbia, named "Most Izvan Granica" ("Bridge beyond Borders"), which has been joined by the Radio City station. The project, within which the programs are aired, aims to examine the possibility of Albanians and Serbs in Kosovo living together and whether the independence or division could be solution to the Kosovo problem.

ANEM points out that such act creates an atmosphere in which the media are prevented from informing the public or to publicly discuss the issues that are relevant to joint existence of Albanians and Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija. ANEM emphasizes that the media dealing with these issues have to be protected from acts that make informing of the public and public debates about this issue impossible, especially having in mind that the project also includes local stations from Kosovo and local stations from central Serbia. ANEM warns that extremist attitudes and prevention or lack of dialogue and public discussion about all issues does not contribute to a better future of all people living in Serbia and Kosovo and Metohija.

ANEM expresses full solidarity with its member, Radio City from Nis and calls on the authorities in the Republic of Serbia and Kosovo to take all measures to prevent further obstruction of this project.

Sasa Mirkovic, ANEM President
