TANJUG SUBJECT TO POLITICAL ABUSE

Belgrade, 04.09.2010. (Dnevnik) - In public discussion on the Draft Media Strategy, private news agencies Beta and FoNet have demanded state's withdrawal from media ownership and stopping of their financing from the budget. They proposed, in their joint memorandum, that the state news agency Tanjug should be privatized and transformed into a state press-bureau. Beta and FoNet believe that the proposal for transforming Tanjug into a non-profit public institution is not acceptable, because it opens the way for political abuse and its further budget financing, which is contrary to the Resolution 1397 (2004) of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly.
