“Violation of Minority Rights”

The Government of Vojvodina opposed the idea of privatization of multi-language media and urged their upholding in the ownership of local self-governments.

Novi Sad, June 16, 2011. (B92) - The Provincial Secretariat for Information announced that the Government of Vojvodina urged the Ministry of Culture to reject the initiative that would directly threaten minority rights.

"We insist that multi-language media should be in public ownership, namely in the ownership of local self-governments", said in the statement.

The Provincial Government estimated that hitherto experiences in the privatization of media showed that "almost every time" it had endangered functioning of media that broadcast the program in minority languages.
