Public Debate on the Draft Strategy for the Development of the Public Information System in the Republic of Serbia until 2016, in Belgrade

Belgrade June 23, 2011 (Ministry of Culture, Media and Information Society) - The public debate on the Draft Strategy for the Development of the Public Information System in the Republic of Serbia until 2016 (Media Strategy) will be held in Belgrade on Monday, June 27, 11 a.m. at the big amphitheatre of the National Bank of Serbia (entrance from the Svetozar Markovic St).

The panelists of the public debate will be the members of the Working group for the development of the Media Strategy, representatives of media associations, State Secretary for the Media of the Ministry of Culture, Media and Information Society Dragana Milicevic Milutinovic and the representatives of the Ministry's Media Department.

The round tables on the Draft Media Strategy organized within the public debate were held in Novi Pazar and Novi Sad, and will be held in Nis, Beograd and Cacak.

Seven-member expert working group for the development of the Media Strategy has submitted the text of the Draft by the envisaged deadline, June 1, to the Ministry of Culture, Media and Information Society. The following members of working group were selected on the proposal of the media associations: Rade Veljanovski, professor of the Belgrade Faculty of Political Sciences, Slobodan Kremenjak, lawyer, Jelena Surčulija, the Belgrade Faculty of Political "Sciences, Dragoljub Zarkovic, editor-in-chief of the weekly "Vreme" and  Zoran Sekulic, "FoNet" editor-in-chief. The following members of the working group were selected on the proposal of the Ministry: Igor Avzner, marketing expert and Danilo Nikolic, expert for European media law. Representatives of the OSCE also participated in the work of the working group as observers.  

The working group was established according to the Protocol on cooperation signed on April 18, between the Ministry of Culture, Media and Information Society and six media associations (NUNS, ANEM, UNS, NDNV, Association of Media and Local Press). This Protocol envisages that the Ministry determines the final text of the Draft Strategy, after which the public debate would ensue.

After the completion of the public debate, the Ministry would propose of the text harmonized with all interested parties to the Government of the Republic of Serbia for adoption.
