The print media in Serbia not dead
Belgrade, November 16, 2011. (B92, Tanjug) - The print media in Serbia are not dead, and modern technology is their chance for development, it was the conclusion of the Press Media Summit in Belgrade.
Editor-in-chief of the "Vreme" weekly, Dragoljub Zarkovic, said that those who anticipated "death" of print media were wrong.
"Newspapers are to explain events and not to report about them," said Dragoljub Zarkovic, adding that the future of print media is just beginning and that they are capable of technical innovations in the best manner.
The president of the Association of Media and the editor of the "Blic" daily, Veselin Simonovic, said that nothing has changed in the print media as compared to last year. He said that the market was collapsed and completely chaotic. Simonovic said that attacks on the media by NGOs had intensified recently and that they did not recognize the media as their partners.
Executive Director of the European Association of Newspapers Francine Cunningham said that the newspaper editors and publishers in Europe were creative and innovative and that newspapers were not dead. She said that Serbia had recently joined the European Newspaper Publishers' Association, which has 26 members and represents 5200 national and regional newspapers in the European Union.
The event was organized by the ABC Serbia, Association of Media and the Business Dialogue.
