TV Avala employees in strike
Belgrade, December 23, 2011 (Alo!) - Employees at the Belgrade television "Avala" interrupted the regular program broadcast yesterday in protest over unpaid wages, said Nikola Vukomanovic, representative of the employees. As he said, the employees have received the first part of the wages for July and part-time staff their honoraria for June. According to Vukomanovic, employees gathered yesterday morning in the lobby of the station expecting negotiations with the management.
"Employees have tried several times to get in touch with the management of the station to discuss the possible solutions to overcome this situation. Indeed, we have been pragmatic and tried in every way not to obstruct the operations of the television station and program broadcasting, and at the same time to ensure that our families have some income before the New Year. So far, we have not succeeded", said Vukomanovic.
Vukomanovic said that employees should have been notified yesterday by the administration when they would be paid their salaries, but this has not happened yet. Television station "Avala" is one of five commercial TV stations in Serbia that have a national broadcasting license, covering the entire territory of the country.
