PUBLIC INTEREST BEFORE COVERT DEALS
Belgrade, January 9, 2012 (Dnevnik) - All doubts about covert attempts to sell and buy ownership stakes in publishing companies "Politika newspaper and magazines", Novosti Company and Dnevnik Vojvodinapress, need to be eliminated as soon as possible, says in the conclusions of the Associaion of Media Managing Board from Friday. Having in mind the position and role of all three publishing companies in the Serbian public information system, it is necessary to utmostly respect the public interest in the process of changing the ownership structure and remove all ambiguities on covert attempts of sale and purchase of ownership stakes, says in the statement.
Not speculating on the possible buyers and sellers of ownership stakes in above media, the Managing Board of Association of Media deems the state obliged to commit all bodies and individuals, who represent the country as one of co-owners in these deals, to full transparency, respect of the law and contractual procedures. Any other behavior would mean the breach of law by those who are responsible for its application and respect, as well as the drastic disorder on the media scene of Serbia in a moment when a new way for its consolidation was paved by the recently adopted Media Strategy.
