public interest TV programs mandatory

Belgrade, May 6, 2012. (Danas) - In addition to the program of the public service broadcaster, cable operators in Serbia will be obliged to offer the program of other TV stations chosen by the Republic Broadcasting Agency (RBA). This agency recently sent a request to RATEL to order the cable operator SBB to enable broadcasting of the programs of the following stations "with equal commercial terms" in the territory of Novi Sad: TV K9, Delta TV, TV Mosaik and TV Novi Sad - City Information Center Apolo. SBB is expected to include the programs of TV VK and TV Rubin in the territory of Kikinda.

This decision is in accordance with the Law on Electronic Communications, according to which RBA could oblige an operator to broadcast certain TV programs at national, provincial, regional or local level.
