FREQUENCY WILL BE USED FOR DIGITALIZATION?
Belgrade, August 9, 2013 (Tanjug) - National TV frequency, that has been left unused with the shutdown of TV Avala, will most likely be used in the process of digitalization, the state secretary in the Ministry of Trade and Telecommunications Stefan Lazarevic said today.
Lazarevic told Tanjug news agency that the Ministry had made a decision to put in the procedure the Rulebook on frequency allocation on Monday.
"By putting the Rulebook in the procedure, we will send information to all institutions that must give a positive opinion first. Following that, the Ministry will have a green light for its adoption", Lazarevic said.
According to the state secretary, the adoption of the Rulebook will also provide for the expansion of the initial network and employment of the equipment obtained with EU funds. On the other hand, the initial network will ensure the coverage of the 70-80 percent of the entire territory of the country wil digital signal.
Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM) has supported the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Telecommunications to use the frequency of former TV Avala for ending the process of digitalization.
"ANEM believes that digitalization is one of the priority processes for the achievement of the goals provided in the Media Strategy and one of the key factors for a successful implementation of media reform", it was said in the statement of the Association.
