TANJUG’S FUTURE IN PRIVATIZATION

Belgrade, November 6, 2013 (B92, Beta, Politika) - The Assistant Culture and Media Minister Sasa Mirkovic said that the only legal solution for the state news agency Tanjug was to be privatized.

"The jubilee of Tanjug is at the same time the opportunity for its more successful future, more corresponding to these times and financial situation that needs to create equal economic conditions for all actors in the media market", Mirkovic told the daily Politika.

He also said that the existence and operations of two other news agencies in the market for over 20 years only proved that the market model was absolutely applicable, under condition that all players in this market game have equal and fair working conditions. Future legal solution for Tanjug is the process of privatization", Mirkovic said on the occasion of marking the jubilee of 70 years of Tanjug.

According to Mirkovic, the Ministry of Culture and Media is working on the text of the Public Information Law, based on the received comments of the ministries and results of the public discussion held in March.

"This is the roof law that will define the issues such as the withdrawal of the state from ownership in media, state aid control, project finansing and deadlines for privatization", Mirkovic concluded.
