FEWER RIGHTS FOR NATIONAL COUNCILS

Beograd, January 18, 2014 (Vecernje novosti) - The Constitutional Court declared unconstitutional a provision of the Law on National Councils of National Minorities, in which the state, the autonomous province or local self-government, upon the initiative of the National Council, transfers the founder`s rights in schools, cultural institutions and media that carry out their activities in the languages ​​of national minorities.

The national councils will not be able to give an opinion to determine the number of students to enroll in high school, to give their consent for the number of students to acquire professional competence, change qualification, attaining qualification and specialization.

The councils are left without the right to give opinions for the appointment of board members, the program committee and the Director-General of the Broadcasting Institution of Serbia if it broadcasts program in the languages ​​of national minorities.
