RTS FINANCED FROM BUDGET

Belgrade, January 25, 2014 (Vecernje novosti) - The decision by the Government of Serbia on public service broadcasters.

Radio Television Serbia and Radio Television Vojvodina in the forthcoming period will be financed from the budget of Serbia. To operate the two public service broadcasters during 2014 the state budget will allocate 7.5 billion dinars. This is provided for by the Decree  on Temporary Financing of the Public Service Broadcasting Institution of Serbia and the Broadcasting Institution of Vojvodina, which the Government of Serbia adopted at yesterday's session.

Permanent financing of public service broadcasters will be resolved by the Law on Public Service Broadcasters, which, according to the announcement from the Ministry of Culture, should be adopted next month. This law provides that this year and the next year, public service broadcasters are to be financed from the state budget.


As long as the law Is not adopted, a decree remains in force stating that television subscription is to be paid via electricity bills.
