4G NETWORKS SOON

Belgrade, January 31, 2014 (Blic) - All telecommunication operators in Serbia, especially those that provide mobile services, are very interested in buying frequency from the digital dividend.

Tatjana Matic, State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign and Internal Trade and Telecommunications, says that it will be possible to use the 4G network in this way, where the flow of information is even faster and which would better cover the rural parts of the country.

The process of digitizing is to release part of the radio frequency spectrum - the digital dividend - which has great potential for high-speed Internet access via cellular networks, and by the sale of frequencies in this part of the spectrum a profit for the budget in tens of millions of Euros is expected - said Matic.

Q: What new services for citizens will digitization make possible?

A: For the citizens who receive TV signals through an antenna, the introduction of digital television will provide better picture quality and greater choice of channels . There will be a better area coverage of Serbia by television signal and the possibility of additional options such as choice of translations and subtitling of content with possible support of multilingualism.

Q: What would happen if we do not complete the process of digitizing in time?

A: In the event that this process is not completed on time, until  17 June 2015 , in addition to the formal non-compliance with international obligations, technical problems with reception would appear.

Serbia would remain an "analogue island" surrounded by countries that have switched to digital broadcasting, technical problems with reception would appear. The digital signal from neighboring countries in that case would obstruct our analog signal.

Q: Is there any news about the PayPal service and receiving money by the citizens of Serbia?

A: There were certain legal concerns in the implementation of financial regulations in the case of payment via PayPal  and the Ministry is consulting the relevant authorities in order to resolve them.
