TOMORROW SESSSION OF RBA COUNCIL ON ALLOCATION OF NATIONAL FREQUENCY

22.4.2014 (Beta) - The Council of the Republic Broadcasting Agency (RBA) will hold a session on Wednesday, 23 April 2014, in which it will discuss the complaints of TV "Nova" and TV "Kopernikus" to the competition for the allocation of national frequency.

Goran Karadžić, deputy president of the Council, said to 'Beta' news agency that he hopes that in the tomorrow's session the decision will be finally reached whether one of the two TV stations will be allocated national frequency.

When he was earlier asked whether a new competition for the allocation of national frequency will be called if the complaints are not adopted, he said that the decision will be passed by responsible institutions, that is RBA, ministry responsible for telecommunications and the Republic Agency for Electronic Communications (RATEL).

Tomorrow is the final deadline for answering the complaints of TV "Nova" and TV "Kopernikus" regarding the allocation of frequencies.

The session was originally scheduled for 14 April, but it was postponed as a member of the RBA Council, bishop Porfirije, was prevented from taking part in the session due to illness.

The RBA Council was supposed to pass the decision on the allocation of licences for broadcasting TV program on a free national frequency in February.

TV "Nova" and TV "Kopernikus" applied to the repeated, second competition for the frequency allocation. Each of the two broadcasters received four votes, while one of the RBA members did not vote for either of them. In order for the frequency to be allocated, such a decision should be supported by five members of the RBA Council.

On 9 August 2013, the RBA Council annuled the previous competition for the allocation of frequency for national broadcasting because neither of the candidates - TV "Nova" and "TV Kopernikus" - received sufficient number of votes for the allocation of frequency.
