“DANAS” MADE PROFIT OF 5.9 MILLION
Belgrade, 07. 05. 2014 (Danas, by R. Ćirković ) - According to the most recent financial statements, leading daily and evening newspapers in Serbia, excluding "Večernje Novosti," made a profit in 2013.
"Večernje Novosti" ended the year with a loss of 112.7 million dinars and 446 employees. The newspaper accumulated losses of 863.2 million from prior years.
The Novi Sad daily "Dnevnik" has more than doubled its loss from 2012, and last year it lost 111.939 million dinars. The daily employs 142 people and has a cumulative loss of 556.3 million dinars from previous years.
The biggest profit was made last year by Ringier Axel Springer, which publishes dailies "Blic" and "Alo", in the amount of 181.453 million dinars (all its editions are included, such as "Blic Žena"). This means that the company's profit in relation to 2012 is less than one half. The media company employs 303 people, 12 less than in 2012.
Tabloid "Kurir" ended the year with a profit of 55.2 million dinars. The media outlet increased its staff to 170.
Daily "Informer" reported a profit of 49.089 million dinars and an increase in the number of employees from 22 to 38.
Daily "Politika" (PNM) operated last year with a profit of 9.6 million, after losing 270.1 million in 2012. The media outlet employs 318 people, eight fewer than in 2012, at least according to the Serbian Business Registers Agency.
The cumulative loss of PNM is 3.9 billion dinars. Unlike PNM, the co-owner of this newspaper, Politika Co. is now on the list of companies under restructuring and it operated last year with a loss of 663.472 million dinars. The media outlet employs 329 people, 16 fewer than in 2012, and has a cumulative loss of 2.769 billion dinars.
The daily "Danas" reported a profit of 5,924 million last year.
