BAD SHAPE OF MEDIA IN KRAGUJEVAC
KRAGUJEVAC, July 4, 2016 (Danas) - Journalists, editors and other members of staff in Radio Television Kragujevac have decided to enter into strike as of Wednesday, July 6, if by then the employer fails to reach an agreement to settle overdue payments and duties to workers. They will file a complaint to the competent court over unpaid wages in the last three months and will use all other means prescribed by the law to protect their rights, says in the press release of the local branch of the "Independence" Union in RTK.
Until recently, RTK was the largest and one of the most respected electronic media south of Sava and Danube rivers. Although the setback of this media outlet has lasted for many years, its financial collapse, followed by a change of editorial policy, which has put RTK among media under a strict control of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), occurred after the privatization in the summer last year, when this media was brought, along with seven or eight other television stations in Serbia, by a businessman Radoica Milosavljevic from Krusevac.
The situation is equally dramatic in other Kragujevac-based media, especially TV Channel 9 and the weekly "Kragujevacke novine", which are virtually facing a shutdown due to the failure of the local government to call a competition for co-financing of media projects of public interest.
