400 MEDIA WORKERS TO LOSE JOBS

Belgrade, February 3, 2011 (Danas) - The largest media outlets in Serbia are currently in a wave of firing of a large number of journalists and other media employees. According to unofficial information, it is expected that 400 media workers will end up losing their jobs.

Given that the sacks are happening mostly in private media, it is undisputable that they have the right to fire employees because of the difficult economic situation, but the manner how they do that is the problem. Representatives of the media public believe that the one of the main problems is the lack of unions that would protect journalists and media workers.
