UNION PROTESTS OVER SUSPENSION OF JOURNALIST

BELGRADE, June 5, 2002 – Union representative Vladimir Gajic today said that the suspension of Radio Television Serbia’s cultural editor, Ivona Zivkovic, was completely without legal basis. “RTS general director Aleksandar Crkvenjakov established that the crime of slander had been committed and so put himself in the position of a judge, which he is not,” said Gajic, explaining that the Labour Act had no provision for temporary suspension. The suspended editor strongly criticised the current situation in RTS in a letter published in Glas javnosti.
