Broadcasting Act Adopted
BELGRADE, July 19, 2002 - The Serbian Parliament today adopted the Broadcasting Act at an extraordinary session. The new legislation envisages the setting up of a Broadcast Agency which will issue frequency licences, regulate the work of broadcasters and withdraw licences for breaches of the law. It will be managed by a board of nine members, eight of whom are elected by the Parliament. The ninth, elected by the other eight, must be from Kosovo. Four members will be nominated by the governments of Serbia and Vojvodina and the other four by the NGO sector. The head of the OSCE mission in Yugoslavia, Stefano Sannino described the adoption of the legislation as an important step towards reform of public and private media.
