Journalist Charged With Libel

BELGRADE, September 12, 2002 – The former director of Serbia’s electricity authority, who is currently being investigated for embezzlement and illegal acquisition of real estate, has laid libel charges against a journalist. Branislav Uskovic has alleged that he was slandered by Ilustrovana Politika journalist Ozren Milanovic. He also claims that Milanovic insulted him by alleging that he had led the power authority into poverty. Second Deadline for Broadcast Agency Board Expires BELGRADE, September 13, 2002 – The second deadline set for establishing the Broadcast Agency Board expired yesterday. The Council, which is prescribed by Serbia’s new Broadcast Act, will have nine members elected by the Serbian Parliament from nominations made by various media and social sectors.
