Strike Causes Prime-Time News Cancellation

BELGRADE, October 13, 2002 – Belgrade’s municipal Studio B Television did not present its prime time evening news on Saturday because of industrial action. Instead a news presenter told audiences that a one-hour warning strike had been called because of employee dissatisfaction with low wages, with the failure to recategorise jobs, with the fact that there is no collective agreement and with the “illegal treatment” of part-time employees. The strike committee refused a settlement offered by Jovan Arezina and decided to proceed with the strike.
