White Paper on Broadcasting Launched
BELGRADE, December 24, 2002 – At yesterday's promotion of a White Paper on broadcasting, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Zarko Korac explained that the Broadcast Act’s stipulation that 126 MPs vote for one of the two nominated candidates must be changed in order for the Agency of the Broadcasting Council Agency to be formed. Justifying the subscription levied for viewers’ licence for the state media network, Korac said that this will lead to media's economic independence. At the launch, ANEM chairman Veran Matic criticized the work of the Serbian Government. He also criticized the Government for allowing the founding of another 400 radio and television stations after October 5, 2000, in addition to the 800 that had already existed.
