Union to Demand Withdrawal of Broadcasting Act

BELGRADE, December 26, 2002 – The Branch Media Labour Union Nezavisnost is to ask the Serbian Government to withdraw the Broadcasting Act. Nezavisnost representative Ivona Zivkovic said today that it would not be possible to collect television license fees from the public and that the Serbian Government would only break the law by continuing to finance the state television from the budget. “The Law is not realistic and the people cannot pay this. RTS has not won back its reputation, there has been no transformation, and we do not have a product that we can offer to the people and ask them to pay for,” said Zivkovic.
