Policemen Charged Over Arrest Of Journalists

POZAREVAC, February 4, 2003 – The Pozarevac municipal public prosecutor Miroslav Vojinovic decided today to bring charges against former chief of the Pozarevac police department Radisa Jovic-Selja, former police officials Dragomir Milenkovic and Velimir Ivanovic, and the incumbent Pozarevac police chief Nikola Kaurin for organizing the illegal arrest of Danas journalists Mile Veljkovic, Bojan Toncic and Natasa Bogovic on the night between May 8 and 9, 2000. Bojan Toncic and Natasa Bogovic spent about 20 hours in the police station in Zabari, and Mile Veljkovic some 22 hours in the police station in Mali Crnic. They were not allowed to contact their families, while no proceedings against them have ever been initiated.
