Court asks parliament on TV tax

BELGRADE, 27 June, 2003 -- Serbia's Constitutional Court yesterday decided to ask for a reply within 30 days from the Serbian Parliament regarding the constitutionality of Broadcast Act provisions. The provisions in question introduced an obligatory radio-television subscription tax for all public broadcasting services. The court initiative insists that a public broadcasting institution is a state institution and as such should be funded from the budget, as are other state institutions. The questioned posed is whether this method of fundinf paves the way for the introduction of an obligation to finance all other public services and institutions.
