Latest Popovic proceedings

BELGRADE, July 3, 2003 – Yesterday saw two hearings of libel cases brought by Serbian Communication Bureau chief Vladimir “Beba” Popovic against the Humanitarian Law Centre, RTV B92 and weekly Vreme (Time). Belgrade’s First Municipal Court saw the preliminary hearing of the case against the Humanitarian Law Centre and B92. The case is scheduled to recommence on 14 July. Popovic is suing the Law Centre for alleged false statements, which were later published by B92. The Law Centre claimed that Popovic order the chief editor of agency Beta to withdraw a published letter from Gradimir Nalic, former security advisor to the Yugoslav President.
