Journalists locked out

VRANJE, September 15, 2003 – The Vranje Press Agency in southern Serbia has been unable to work since Saturday when the locks to its offices were changed. Agency editor in chief Vojkan Ristic said the locks had been changed on the door to the Vranje Pension and Invalid Fund building without informing the agency. Ristic claimed the problems began when the agency released the results of an opinion poll suggesting that the director of the Fund, Democratic Party member Dragan Janjic, had lost the support of voters. The old locks were replaced, Ristic said, after he scheduled a press conference and informed the Independent Association of Serbian Journalists and the Culture and Media Ministry.
