Paper protests

BELGRADE, October 10, 2003 – Belgrade weekly Nedeljni Telegraf yesterday protested over demands from Deputy Prime Minister Nebojsa Covic, describing his statement as a coded call for the arrest of the paper’s editor over articles on the political background to the assassination of prime minister Zoran Djindjic. The weekly described this as “an obvious example of pressure on the judiciary” and an attempt to prevent the paper researching an issue which many people found threatening.
