Criminal charges for vilification

NOVI SAD, October 10, 2003 – A group of Novi Sad University professors and a lawyer have filed criminal charges against responsible people in Television Novi Sad and historian Jovan Pejin for "disseminating national, racial and religious hatred”. Lawyer Slobodan Beljanski said Thursday that the criminal charges were filed after they “waited, in vain” for the republic Broadcast Council or some other responsible body to take adequate measures against this. The charges were filed over Pejin’s appearance on September 10 in Television Novi Sad’s show “Unbuttoned” when he spoke about minorities in Vojvodina “with hatred and belittling them”. Beljanski added that the criminal charges have been filed with the District public prosecutor’s office in Novi Sad.
