Apolo seeks clarification

BELGRADE, October 30, 2003 – Novi Sad broadcaster TV Apolo has turned to the Broadcast Agency Council for an interpretation of its obligations to presidential candidate Velimir Ilic. “Because TV Apolo has filed criminal charges against Velimir Ilic which have still not been heard because he is protected by parliamentary immunity, we ask that you interpret and explain the obligations of our television station in this particular case,” said the broadcaster in a letter to the Council. Television stations in local and regional communities are obliged by law to provide equal and free campaign programs for candidates in this month’s presidential elections. Apolo sued Ilic earlier this year after an incident in which he kicked an interviewer during a live broadcast after becoming irritated at questions about conflicts of interest.
