Borba vs. Novosti: battle continues

BELGRADE, December 3, 2003 – The general director and editor-in-chief of Novosti, Manojlo Vukotic, has sued the “St Michael Press” and “Borba” publishing houses. The suit against St Michael Press was brought by Manojlo Vukotic and his wife Visnja, an Ekspres Politika journalist, over an article published in daily Internacional on November 27 under the headline “Visnja behind the wall”. They say the article contained a number of false claims and insults that damaged their reputation and the reputation of their family. The suit also names Milovan Brkic, the author of the text and acting editor of Internacional, and acting editor-in-chief Nevenka Stojcevic. Vukotic also sued the publishers of Belgrade daily Borba, its editor in chief Miodrag Vukovic and Borba Company director Zoran Kalicanin. Kalicanin was the author of the article “The cries of Comrade director”, published on December 1 and republished the following day in Internacional. Vukotic claims Kalicanin sought to degrade his career as a journalist.
