Borba strike continues

BELGRADE, December 12, 2003 – Two months into the strike, workers at Borba complained yesterday that no one has responded to their requests for talks. The strike committee said they had approached the director of the Information Directorate, Slobodan Orlic, the Serbia-Montenegro president, the Serbian government and the unions. The employees continue to exchange blows with director Zoran Kalicanin on the pages of Borba. Kalicanin has described them as “criminals and mercenaries”. The strike committee responded: “The Social Democratic Party, which is standing in elections with G17 Plus, of which Kalicanin is a member, publicly promotes cooperation with the unions and the fight for the rights of workers, yet at the same time it does nothing to resolve the difficulties in Borba which party leader Slobodan Orlic is directly responsible for.”
