Broadcast Council on transformation of RTS

BELGRADE, February 2, 2004 – The Broadcast Agency Council said Monday that in association with Radio Television Serbia (RTS) and Radio Television Novi Sad it will ask the Serbian parliament and government “to urgently adopt all documents necessary for the successful functioning of public broadcasting services.” The statement said that in October the Council named candidates for the management boards of the republic and provincial broadcast services. “The Council draws the attention of the public to the fact that the transformation of RTS into a public broadcasting institution calls for the coordinated work of all state bodies.” The Council said it had “analysed the submissions” of G17 Plus and the National Savings Bank regarding certain reports on BK Television. “Acting under article 14 of the Broadcast Act, the Council has forwarded these submissions to BK Television and given it an 8-day deadlines, as stipulated by the law, to respond.” “The Council does not have the legal opportunity to immediately review and establish whether the submissions were founded,” read the statement.
