B92 director testifies

BELGRADE, February 20, 2004 – B92 director Sasa Mirkovic testified on Friday in a case brought by Vladimir Popovic, the former head of the Serbian government’s communications bureau, against B92 and the Humanitarian Law Centre. Popovic is seeking 2 million dinars (30,000 euros) after B92 broadcast a statement by the Humanitarian Law Centre. Mirkovic confirmed that B92 had broadcast the statement, but denied it had been ordered to do so, as claimed by Popovic. “We cooperate with the non-governmental sector, but we don’t order statements from anyone,” said Mirkovic. “When we to say something, we do, and the B92 logo is behind it.” The next hearing has been scheduled for March 26.
