US NGO donations

BELGRADE, February 20, 2004 – In 2001, TV B92 received 100,000 dollars from the US-based non-governmental organisation National Endowment for Democracy (NED) for a one-hour documentary about the crimes of the Slobodan Milosevic regime. The Helsinki Committee for Human Rights received a donation amounting to 201,000 dollars, the Association of Independent Electronic Media received 225,000 dollars, while the student resistance movement Otpor was given 738,475 dollars. Between 2000 and 2002, NED approved donations amounting to just over 3 million dollars to Serbian NGOs and media. The largest individual sum was just under 1.5 million dollars. The largest donations were to the media, including for the education of journalists (775,000 dollars), the donation to Otpor and the Centre for International Private Entrepreneurship (504,653 dollars).
