Libel verdict to be reviewed

KRAGUJEVAC, March 3, 2004 – The district court in Kragujevac has returned for reconsideration a guilty verdict in the libel case against Nezavisna Svetlost journalist Gordana Bozic. The decision to review the decision was taken on June 7 last year. The order states that the court of first instance failed to make clear the criteria used when it deemed the disputed article libellous. The mayor of Kragujevac sued Bozic over an article headlined “Party seeking free lunch,” which concerned the work of youth organisations and their ties with parties in power and the head of local government. Bozic was originally found guilty and fined 3,000 dinars plus court costs amounting to 22,000 dinars.
