Government to abolish communications bureau

BELGRADE, March 5, 2004 – The new Serbian Government will abolish the Government’s Communications Bureau, sources from the Democratic Party of Serbia told Beta yesterday. There will be an information sector in the Government, but no decision has been passed on who will be in charge. The Democratic Party of Serbia says that all government agencies that were formed under the law will continue work, but that all those under government decree will be abolished. The councils, as government bodies, will continue work, while possible personnel changes will be discussed at a later date if the need arises, the source told Beta. Over the past few days, media have published various reports that Srdjan Djuric could be appointed to run the press department, and thus become Beba Popovic’s successor. Srdjan Djuric is a former Studio B and BK TV journalist and editor and currently owns a Belgrade PR agency.
