Unions Request Dismissal Of Nasa Rec Editor

LESKOVAC, March 14, 2004 – The Independent Labour Union and Nezavisnost Union of Leskovac weekly Nasa Rec has asked for the dismissal of editor in chief Verica Batorovic-Bozovic. Around 30 Nasa Rec employees protested at the fact journalists were suddenly ordered only to work first shift and that the offices were locked at 2pm. The journalists have been turned into civil servants, the letters claimed. They accused Batorovic-Bozovic of “illegally punishing, insulting and harassing” employees, and of censoring articles. Nezavisnost Union leader Ljiljana Stojanovic said they had had no response from local council heads. Batorovic-Bozovic has refused to comment on the allegations against her.
