Free The Media Of Party Dictatorship

BELGRADE, March 9, 2004 – Culture Minister Dragan Kojadinovic yesterday called for more money from the state to budget to be earmarked for culture, since the current 0.9 percent (350 million dinars) is not enough. Kojadinovic said that the media would be his priority. He said it was necessary to overcome the chaos on the airwaves and to analyse the structure of the media. “The most important thing for me is to free the media of party dictatorship, censorship, and worst of all – self-censorship,” said the minister. Kojadinovic announced he would hold talks with media directors and editors in chief, and urged journalism associations to be “more determined” instead of engaging in “political” battles.
