BROADCASTING WITHOUT LICENCES UNTIL 2007

BELGRADE, October 18, 2006 (Danas) - The Republic Broadcasting Agency will allow stations to broadcast without licenses until the end of the year. Despite the fact that the Agency publicly called on all radio and TV stations that do not have licenses to terminate their broadcasts, the Agency will not be shutting anyone down until 2007, daily Danas reported. Those who are working without a license in Belgrade will be able to do so until the end of the year, in light of the constitutional referendum and eventual December elections. According to the Broadcasting Law, radio and television stations which did not receive licenses from the Agency will have to terminate their transmissions and inform the agency that they have done so. Sources claim that the Agency backed down from this because RTV Politika offered to drop charges filed to the Serbian Supreme Court against the Agency if it is allowed to broadcasting the elections on cable.
