NUNS OBJECTS TREATMENT OF REPORTERS

BELGRADE, November 9, 2006. (BETA) - Independent Journalists Association is unhappy with the way organizers of yesterday's parliament session treated reporters. NUNS said in a statement that the organizers’ decision to allow only the state television to broadcast and report directly from the ceremony ratifying the new constitution was unreasonable. “The other media was thus declared unwanted and unfit”, the statement reads. NUNS expects the legislative branch of government to answer the question whether this behavior was aimed at avoiding reporters’ questions about inter-party election deals, hiding from the Serbian citizens which public figures attended, or if the decision to bar most of the media outlets from covering the event stemmed from the desire to censor the images of the members of a parliamentary party in attendance wearing t-shirts glorifying a Hague war crimes indictee.
