INITIATIVE ON THE SAFETY OF JOURNALISTS

Washington, January 11, 2013 (VOA) - A record number of more than a hundred reporters were killed last year while performing their job, Voice of America reported.

That is why the United Nations has recently launched a new initiative for the better security of the "fourth estate".

The United Nations said that in the last year more than a hundred journalists had been killed while on duty, many of which were deliberate targets. At the recently held conference in Vienna, the United Nations launched the so-called "Action Plan for the Safety of Journalists and fight against impunity".
