TURKISH JOURNALISTS WINS THIS YEAR`S SEEMO HUMAN RIGHTS AWARD

Vienna, November 29, 2013 ( Beta ) - Human Rights Award, presented by the South East Europe Media Organization (SEEMO), this year was awarded to Ballenta Mumay, editor-in-chief of the Turkish Internet portal Hurriyet (HĂĽrriyet.com.tr).

The statement of SEEMO, which operates as part of the International Press Institute (IPI), Mumaj was awarded for his human rights -oriented editorial approach and for his commitment to the rights of Turkish citizens .

The portal edited by Mumaj is believed to represent the views of many different groups in Turkish society and its reporting contributes to the promotion of basic rights in Turkey.

Reports of the portals have become very important in the 2013, despite heavy pressure from government and challenging time for Turkey.

Mumaj was born in 1977. He graduated from the University of Istanbul, after which completed a master program and is currently at the same university doctoral student in journalism.

The prize will awarded on December 4, 2013 at  Istanbul by SEEMO Secretary General Oliver Vujovic .

SEEMO Award for Human Rights was established in 2002, and is associated with the International Human Rights Day which is celebrated on 10 December.
