MEDIA ORGANIZATIONS CONDEMN THREATS TO STOJAN MARKOVIC, OWNER OF THE LOCAL PAPERS “CACANSKE NOVINE” AND RADIO OZON

Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia (NUNS), Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM), Independent Journalists’ Association of Vojvodina (NDNV) and Association Lokal Pres strongly condemn the death threats which Vojislav Ilić, managing director of JP Gradac in Cacak, referred to Stojan Marković, local municipal councilman and owner of the local papers “Čačanske novine” and radio station “Radio Ozon”.

Vojislav Ilić, the brother of the leader of political party Nova Srbija (New Serbia), yesterday offended Stojan Marković and hurled insults at him during his speech at the municipal assembly. Later on, in the hall of the Assembly, Vojislav Ilić said to Marković that, thanks to articles in Čačanske novine, his brother, Velimir Ilić, lays in hospital. Ilić then threaten Marković with death, unless he stops to write about the leader of Nova Srbija. Stojan Marković reported the threats to police department in Cacak and announced to press the charges against Vojislav Ilić.

NUNS, ANEM, NDNV i Lokal pres request from the police to take all lawful measures and enable Stojan Marković to conduct his journalistic and councilor work without being disturbed. Moreover, considering the fact that, three years ago, while he was the President of Cacak Assembly, Vojislav Ilić threatened Marković with death, and repeated his threats later in the police station before the officer Milovan Petrović.
