ANEM CONDEMNS ATTACK ON JOURNALIST OF TV BEST FROM ZAJECAR

Belgrade, November 27, 2012 - The Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM) condemns the attack by Ivan Jokovic, the president of the City Assembly of Zajecar, on Sladjana Tomic, the editor-in-chief of TV Best from Zajecar.

The media reports that the journalist approached Mr. Jokovic near the Assembly Hall and asked him to explain the reason for postponing of the Assembly session, after which he threw her microphone on the ground.

ANEM reminds that the local self-government and local deputies are obliged to make available to the public all information about their activities under equal conditions for all journalists and all media outlets.

ANEM also reminds that the Law on Public Information forbids every form of pressure that could prevent journalists from doing their work, which undoubtedly includes throwing or destroying their equipment.

ANEM demands that the City Assembly of Zajecar denounce the behavior of its president and ensure full public access to information about its activities.

ANEM President,

Sasa Mirkovic
