PUBLIC DEBATE ON DRAFT LAW ON ILLEGAL MEDIA OWNERSHIP CONCENTRATION

Public debate on a draft Law prohibiting the concentration of media ownership has just started (on December 25th) and it will last until January 25th 2009.Suggestions and modifications of  the  Law proposal can be submitted to the media department of the Ministry of Culture of Republic of Serbia. Additionally, Ministry will organize open public discussions regarding the proposed draft Law in Nis, Kragujevac, Novi Sad and Belgrade.

Draft Law on illegal media concentration is the second media-related act prepared by Working Group for harmonization of the domestic regulations with the EU within Ministry of Culture. Proposal of the Law ratifying the European Convention on Transfrontier Television is already submitted to the Serbian Parliament. It is expected that Law on Illegal Concentration and Public Ownership of the Public Media (as a draft is officially called) will be presented to the Parliament in March 2009, after the debate.
