RTS TO BROADCAST LIVE, PARLIAMENT TO PAY

The Serbian Parliament has postponed the launching of its Parliamentary TV channel until 2012. The Parliamentary Working Group concluded that there were no legal or financial grounds for the parliamentary channel and decided to request specification of costs for live broadcast from the public service.

Belgrade, 23.09.2009. (Danas) - The Serbian Parliament has withdrawn from the process of establishment of the parliamentary television channel until 2012, when the transition from analog to digital broadcasting is scheduled. Until then, the national Parliament will have to rely on the Radio-Television of Serbia (RTS), which has been broadcasting, live or with delay, plenary sessions of the Assembly. The Parliament would pay for the services of RTS in the future - it was concluded at the yesterday's session of the parliamentary Working Group on the issue of TV program transmission.

The establishment of the parliamentary TV channel requires the provision of appropriate frequency, transmitter, transmission system, installation and equipment, although the parliament building had partially designed and installed so-called "broadcast" system back in 2003.
