MEDIA STILL IN DIFFICULT POSITION IN 2010

Belgrade, January 6, 2010 (Danas) - The daily Danas organized a survey on the media situation in 2009 and expectations in 2010. The unanimous conclusion was that the previous year was bad and that 2010 will not be better. The surveyed media specialists expected "harsh state interventions in editorial policy", closures of a significant number of local media, dismissals of journalists and the continuation of self-censorship. Such trends are expected even if the Constitutional law declares the new Public Information law as non constitutional. Advertising funds are diminishing and smaller media will be hit harder.
