STATEMENT OF THE MINISTRY OF THE INTERNAL AFFAIRS (MUP): MEETING WITH THE REPRESENTATIVES OF ANEM

Belgrade, February 26, 2010 (Source: web site ot the Ministry of Internal Affairs) - First Deputy Prime minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Internal Affairs Ivica Dacic met with representatives of ANEM (Association of Independent Electronic Media). This Association gathers more than 40 media outlets as fulltime members and more than 60 affiliate members.

The topic of discussion was the current situation in the broadcasting sector, as well as the problems that ANEM member stations and other media in Serbia were facing, caused by the sudden rise of the number of pirate radio and TV stations.

Today, in Serbia there are 476 licenses which were issued to legal broadcasters and 186 illegal broadcasters recorded.

ANEM representatives urged the minister to provide assistance of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the controlling and closing of the illegal radio and TV stations.

Dacic stressed the readiness of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to assist in finding solutions, emphasizing the need to find a legal foothold qualifying of this act, with the inclusion of judicial and prosecution authorities and representatives of  RATEL and ANEM.
