RBA: CRIMINAL CHARGES AGAINST PIRATE BROADCASTERS

Belgrade, July 14, 2010 (Danas) - For more efficient fight against radio piracy, the Republic Broadcasting Agency (RBA) submitted to the Prosecutor's Office for high-tech crime 50 charges against radio stations that broadcast the program illegaly and they are in the closing down phase, said the RBA spokesman Srboljub Bogdanovic, for the daily Danas.

Bogdanovic explains that the RBA did not have the power to confiscate the equipment of the illegal broadcasters, so many sealed stations broke the official seal and continued to work. Given that stations perform a criminal act by illegal broadcasting, he says that the Prosecution for the high-tech crime has the authority to confiscate the equipment of those broadcasters. "This practice will be continued in the future, where the RBA will identify the perpetrators in cooperation with the Republic Telecommunication Agency (RATEL), and will deliver information to the Prosecutor's Office for high-tech crime" said in the RBA statement.
